Pair of 18th-Century Dutch Pastoral Paintings by Johannes Carré, Signed & Dated 1766

Sale price$4,395.00 USD

Pair of 18th-Century Dutch Pastoral Paintings by Johannes Carré, Signed & Dated 1766

A remarkable pair of 18th-century Dutch pastoral paintings by Johannes Carré (1698–1772), each signed and dated 1766.

The companion works depict idyllic pastoral landscapes populated with cattle and other livestock, rendered in the warm, atmospheric palette characteristic of 18th-century Dutch landscape painting. Carré was a Dutch painter particularly known for his landscapes and animal subjects.

Especially wonderful is that these two paintings have remained together as a pair for more than 250 years. Their complementary compositions, scale, palette and subject matter create a beautiful dialogue when displayed together, while each remains a compelling work in its own right.

Presented in rustic wood frames whose warm tones complement the paintings beautifully. Both works retain the surface, patina and character expected of paintings of this age.
