Vintage French Silverplate Shell Dish with Glass Insert (2 Available, Sold Separately)
A scallop shell in French silverplate, fitted with a frosted glass shell inside, because one shell was evidently not enough.
The silverplate base follows the shell's fluted edge and rests on small ball feet. The glass insert repeats the ribbing in soft, satiny glass and lifts out for washing, so the silver never has to deal with anything sticky. Each dish is stamped "Déposé," the French mark for a registered design, alongside a small maker's mark.
Use one for butter, olives, salt, or caviar if the evening calls for it. On a dressing table it's just as good for rings, and on a desk for the small things that otherwise end up everywhere.
Two are available and sold separately, so you can take one or claim the pair. The silverplate shows a soft patina and light wear consistent with age.
