French Alabaster Bust of a Woman

A beautiful French alabaster bust depicting an elegant young woman in traditional dress, sourced in France. Carved from richly variegated alabaster, the stone has gorgeous natural tones of warm honey, cream, caramel and deep brown that give the piece incredible depth and luminosity.

Her delicately modeled face is framed by an elaborate headdress finished with a small bow, while the folds of her clothing are beautifully carved across the bodice. The translucency of the alabaster is especially striking when it catches the light, giving the sculpture an almost glowing quality.

A substantial decorative piece at 14.5 inches tall by 10.25 inches wide, she has wonderful presence displayed on a console, pedestal, mantel or among a collection of antique objects.

Found in France. Antique condition with age-related surface wear, small nicks, losses and evidence of old repairs, all visible in the photographs and consistent with the age and nature of the piece.
