Pair of Antique French Blue Vases with Gilt Metal Mounts and Cameo Medallions
A pair of baluster vases in a deep, shimmering blue, the kind that shifts from sapphire to peacock depending on where you stand, dressed in gilt metal with the confidence of a Louis XVI drawing room.
Each vase carries tall scrolling handles set with rosettes, a laurel band at the shoulder, and garlands of flowers swagged beneath a ribbon bow. At the center of each hangs an oval cameo medallion with a classical profile in relief, looking suitably unbothered. They rest on gilt metal bases with fine beaded and leaf-tip edges.
On a mantel, a console, or either end of a sideboard, they bring instant symmetry and a little Parisian theater. Fill them with stems, or let them stand on their own. They are not short on things to say.
One vase is in excellent antique condition. The other has a few small nicks to the surface on the front and back, shown in the final photo, the sort of honest wear a pair picks up over a long life together. From across the room, you will be hard-pressed to tell which is which.
