Antique French Shield Frame in Gilt Bronze and Pink Silk

A shield-shaped frame dressed in pink ribbed silk and trimmed in gilt bronze. It manages to look both heraldic and like something from Marie Antoinette's dressing room, which is a combination France has always been comfortable with.

A bronze ribbon bow and laurel sprays crown the top, and a laurel border runs around the edge. Inside, applied scrolls and acanthus sprigs frame an oval opening ringed in its own little laurel wreath. The fabric is a soft, ribbed blush pink, and against the bronze it reads somewhere between ballet slipper and boudoir.

It hangs from a bronze chain. Use it for a small portrait, a family photo, or a postcard from somewhere you'd like to go back to. Hung empty, it does very well on its own.

It's in excellent condition. The silk is fresh and unfaded, and the gilt bronze is warm and bright.
