Antique French Oval Oil Painting on Board, Mediterranean Harbor, Signed Morano

A small oval oil on board of a Mediterranean harbor, painted with the kind of confidence that comes from standing in front of the view. Stone houses with red-tiled roofs sit on a rocky point above a harbor wall, two sailboats are tied up below, and blue hills fade into a hazy afternoon sky. The paint is laid on thick, with heavy impasto in the sky and rocks that catches the light and makes a small picture look larger than it is.

Signed lower right, "Morano." It's unframed and looks good that way, whether propped on a bookshelf, leaned against a stack of books, or hung in a gallery wall where it will quietly outshine larger things.
