Antique French Ormolu and Crystal Lidded Box

A round vanity box from France with no interest in being subtle. A pierced gilt-ormolu lattice wraps a clear glass well. The lid is a glass panel overlaid with a cast garland of rosettes and oval cartouches, finished with a small turned finial on top. 

The lid lifts off cleanly to show the full glass interior, which is roomy enough for rings, powder, or whatever you'd like to keep near you and slightly out of sight. The gilt has the soft, uneven warmth of an object that has actually been handled, with mellowed tone in the recesses and brighter wear on the high points.

Best placed on a dressing table, a bedside, or anywhere a small box can do more than its share.
