Vintage French Sports Medal with Laurel Wreath, FSGT Paris

A French sports medal awarded by the FSGT (Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail) in Paris, engraved "FSGT PARIS 85" on the reverse. The front has a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon around a plain center disc, set against a pebbled ground. The center was left blank, so the achievement is open to interpretation. It may have been for a footrace. It may have been for showing up.

The bronze-toned finish has darkened in the recesses and worn smooth at the high points, which gives the wreath real depth. The loop at the top makes it easy to hang from a ribbon, chain, or nail. It works well in a shadow box, on a stack of books, or as a small trophy for something you're proud of that doesn't come with an official medal.
