Antique French Gilt Bronze Rococo Miniature Frame

A miniature oval frame in gilt bronze, made in the full Rococo spirit, which holds that no curve should go without a second curve.

A small cast rose crowns the top. From there, scrolls and blossoms tumble down both sides and gather again at the base. Two little feet fold out at the back so it stands on its own. The interior is backed in a vivid blue that does the gilt no harm at all.

It's sized for a miniature portrait, a tiny photograph, or a pressed flower. Left empty on a dressing table or a stack of books, it still looks like it's waiting for someone important.

The gilding has a warm, mellow glow, with gentle wear in the high points that comes from age and handling.
