Antique French Bamboo Fire Screen

This is a charming antique French bamboo fire screen dating from the late 19th century, circa 1870-1900. This delightful piece exemplifies the Aesthetic Movement and Japonisme influences that were popular during the Victorian era, when bamboo furniture captured the Western fascination with Asian design. The frame is expertly crafted from bamboo with characteristic nodes and joints that create visual interest throughout. The geometric frame features an elaborate architectural design with multiple decorative horizontal and vertical elements at the top, creating an Asian-inspired pavilion effect. The screen panel is upholstered in a luxurious tapestry or jacquard fabric featuring a rich Jacobean-style floral pattern in burgundy, olive green, rust, blue, and cream tones against an ivory ground, depicting stylized blooming flowers and scrolling foliage. The fabric is in excellent condition with vibrant colors and no visible fading, tears, or stains. The fire screen is in very good overall condition with honest age-appropriate wear that adds character and authenticity.
