These are genuine antique volumes from one of the greatest scientific works of the Enlightenment: Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière by Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon — naturalist, mathematician, and Keeper of the Jardin du Roi. First published in 1749, Buffon's Histoire Naturelle ran to 44 volumes and was one of the most widely read scientific works of the 18th century, influencing Darwin and shaping the entire field of natural history.

The title page identifies Buffon as "Intendant du Jardin du Roi, de l'Académie Françoise, &c." — printed at the Imprimerie Royale, Paris, M.DCCLXX (1770). These are original pages, over two and a half centuries old, with the beautiful rough deckle edges of handmade 18th-century laid paper still fully intact.

Each volume has been given a fresh neutral cloth casing with a handsome kraft paper spine label — transforming a fragile antique tome into a striking decorative piece that brings 255 years of history into a contemporary home. The original pages inside remain entirely untouched.

These volumes photograph beautifully and work as shelf décor, stack styling, or standalone display objects. Two volumes are available and sold separately. Each one is a unique object — no two are identical in the character of their aging and wear.
