19th Century French Palais Royal Green Glass & Mother of Pearl Perfume Casket
An absolutely exceptional 19th-century French Palais Royal perfume casket, combining jewel-like green glass, ornate ormolu, and luminous mother-of-pearl detailing.
The circular casket is constructed in intricate pierced ormolu and set around the body with rich emerald-green glass panels. The domed lid is embellished with oval mother-of-pearl cabochons, delicate foliate metalwork, and additional green glass, creating an almost jewel-box-like effect. Whimsical scrolling feet and fine decorative details throughout make this an especially charming example of Palais Royal craftsmanship.
The hinged lid opens to reveal its original miniature green crystal perfume bottle, complete with its decorative gilt stopper—a wonderful detail that makes the piece feel remarkably complete.
In great antique condition, particularly considering its age and delicate construction. As expected with a handmade 19th-century piece, there are small irregularities to the edges of some of the inset glass, including areas that feel slightly sharp or uneven. These details are pictured and are consistent with the handcrafted nature and age of the piece.
A truly special collector’s object and an extraordinary little piece of French decorative history.
