The Duke of Argyll: Autobiography and Memoirs (Connoisseur Edition, 1906)
George Douglas Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll
Edited by the Dowager Duchess of Argyll
A rare and distinguished two-volume set of Autobiography and Memoirs by George Douglas Campbell, the 8th Duke of Argyll (1823–1900), a prominent Scottish nobleman, statesman, and scientist of the Victorian era. This Connoisseur Edition, published in 1906 by E.P. Dutton and Company (New York), is limited to just 500 copies—this set being number 422.
Elegantly bound in contemporary half brown levant morocco over marbled boards, with gilt-ruled and tooled spines, raised bands, and marbled endpapers. The volumes include portraits and illustrations throughout and remain in fine condition.
What makes this set exceptionally collectible is the autograph letter signed by the Duke of Argyll, tipped into Volume I—a remarkable and personal addition to an already scarce edition.
A gem for collectors of historical biography, Scottish heritage, or fine bindings.
