Antique Russian Malachite Circular Photo Frame
A striking antique circular photo frame veneered in richly colored malachite, displaying natural concentric banding in deep emerald and forest green tones. The stonework reflects the skilled mosaic techniques practiced in Russian workshops during the late 19th century, with carefully selected sections arranged to create a harmonious radial pattern.
The frame is topped with a finely detailed gilt metal crown, an ornamental feature characteristic of Russian decorative arts of the period and reflective of the European influences favored by aristocratic interiors. A textured rope-twist outer border and beaded inner surround add subtle depth and refinement to the design.
Circular malachite frames are less commonly encountered than rectangular examples and were favored as decorative desk or cabinet objects rather than large display pieces. The reverse retains its original metal backing with easel stand and velvet covering.
An elegant and sculptural object, well suited for display within a curated collection or classical interior.
