The fleur-de-lis — lily of France, emblem of monarchy, symbol of nobility and spiritual purity — has adorned French decorative arts for centuries. This exceptional 19th century wax seal takes that iconic form and renders it in three dimensions: a fully sculptural fleur-de-lis handle in silver-toned metal, its central petal tall and deeply ribbed, flanked by gracefully arching outer petals and finished below with elegant curved lower petals above a squared stepped ferrule. The silver has developed a beautiful oxidized patina, with lighter highlights catching on the raised surfaces and warm shadows pooling in the recesses — the hallmark of genuine age and quality.

The seal face is engraved with an ornate diamond-framed monogram cipher, its interlaced letters surrounded by decorative flourishes. This lozenge format — the diamond seal — is a traditional heraldic form associated with unmarried women and ecclesiastical use in 19th century France, lending the piece an additional layer of historical interest.

Whether placed on a desk as a sculptural accent, displayed in a collection of antique writing instruments, or used as the centerpiece of a French-inspired interior vignette, this seal commands immediate attention. The fleur-de-lis form gives it broad decorative appeal — at home alongside toile, Directoire furniture, blue-and-white transferware, or any setting that draws on the rich visual language of French style.

An exceptional example in very good antique condition with lovely aged patina. Dimensions available upon request.
