A pair of absolutely stunning French bronze and alabaster urns.
Ormolu, a term for gilded bronze, was widely used in French decorative arts during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in the creation of luxurious home decor items. These urns likely reflect the opulent style of the Louis XVI or Napoleon III periods, characterized by intricate detailing and a blend of classical motifs.
The use of marble bases adds to their elegance, as marble was a favored material in French interiors, often used to complement the gold tones of ormolu. Such vases were typically used as decorative pieces on mantelpieces or as part of garniture sets, showcasing the craftsmanship.
These gorgeous pieces would make the perfect addition to a fireplace mantle or bookshelf or entry way table! Great antique condition. There is a small disclaimer on the top of one where the bronze is disconnected from the main piece (as displayed in close up picture).
13” tall. Top does not have a vase opening.
