Antique French Marquetry and Porcelain Jardinière

Stamped H. Lemoine, Paris | Napoleon III Era, c. 1870–1890

A showstopping piece of French decorative arts, this antique jardinière exemplifies the opulence of the Napoleon III era and is stamped by the prestigious Parisian atelier H. Lemoine of Maison Lemarchand. Located on Rue des Tournelles, Lemoine was known for producing high-end furnishings and commissioned works for elite clientele during the Second Empire and beyond—often supplying pieces to match the interiors of France’s most refined residences.

This piece features a serpentine marquetry form adorned with finely cast gilt bronze mounts, including figural handles and an ornate pierced gallery. The front is crowned by a hand-painted Sevres-style porcelain plaque, rich in color and beautifully framed in gilt bronze. The attention to detail throughout the ormolu work is unmistakable and a hallmark of fine Parisian cabinetmaking of the late 19th century.

The porcelain plaque is in excellent condition, vibrant and free of damage. There are areas of wear and small losses to the marquetry veneer, consistent with age—please refer to the photos for close-up details. A metal liner is present; it has not been removed and will be left as-is for the next owner to decide its use.

This is not just a decorative object—it’s a signed work from a known 19th-century Paris maker with historical ties to France’s luxury interior tradition.
