Gorgeous 19th century framed enamel hand-painted portrait of a woman. Enamel portrait miniatures gained popularity in the 16th century and remained fashionable through the 19th century. Limoges, France was the prominent center for enamel production. The process of creating enamel miniatures involved applying layers of colored enamel to a metal base, typically copper, and firing them at high temperatures. This painstaking technique required exceptional skill and precision, resulting in vibrant and durable works of art. The bronze ormulu frame complements the artwork, adding to its aesthetic appeal and historical value. There is some wear on the velvet on the border of the frame. The enamel portrait itself is in excellent condition.
